Clean Make-Up Brushes

Make-up brush can contains lots of bacteria, dirt and dust. So there is a need to wash or clean them frequently, to keep your face away from extra dirt and bacteria.

There is a few ways to wash your brushes:

  1. Wash with mild shampoo or cleansing wash.

  2. Clean with brush cleanser.

  3. Use a brush cleansing spray.


1. Wash with mild shampoo or cleansing wash.
(pls avoid wetting/washing the metal portion)


  • Dampen your brush with lukewarm water.

  • Drop a little of shampoo/cleanser on the brush.

  • Gently lather.

  • Rinse the bristle lightly with lukewarm water.

  • Rinse till no dirt/color comes out of the brush.

  • Carefully cleans it with a dry tissue. (To check of there is residue and dry a little)

  • Allow it to air-dry. (place it bristle down at a angle so that water will not enter the metal portion)


2. Clean with brush cleanser. (Deep Clean)
(some brush cleanser can be use for quick cleansing like the cleansing spray)

  • Pour brush cleanser into a shallow cup with lukewarm water.

  • Dip brush into the cup. (avoid submerging the metal portion)

  • Swirl/circle the brush till clean.

  • Gently clean/dab with a dry tissue. (To check if there is still residue and dry the brush)

  • Allow it to air-dry. (place it bristle down at a angle so that water will not enter the metal portion)


3. Use a brush cleansing spray. (Quick cleansing)
(some brush cleanser can be use like a cleansing spray, pour on a piece of tissue)


  • Spray directly on the brush (avoid metal portion) or on a piece of thick tissue (paper kitchen towel).

  • Swirl/Circle/Brush on tissue till clean.

  • Gently clean/dab with a dry tissue. (To check if there is still residue and dry the brush)

Even thou quick cleansing is convenient, it only remove about 80% of the bacteria on the brush. Pls try to deep clean them at least once a week or two.
Brush cleanser can be found in beauty supply stores. (Eg. Sephora or sasa in Singapore.)

MAC Brush Cleanser (SGD21). - Currently using
Sephora Brush Cleansing Spray/Shampoo(SGD16).
